Since 1990, Molly and Sonny Boy, known to their families as Amy Triebenbach, and Dr. James Zents have been performing music professionally in various venues, and with different bands. It wasn't until 2005 that Molly and Sonny Boy began performing regularly together as a creative singer-songwriter team.
The two members of the music duo, Molly and Sonny Boy, have a breath of experience in music performance, and entertaining groups of music-lovers.
Molly, whose real name is Amalia (hence, the name Molly, a derivativation of Amalia) Triebenbach began her musical studies when she was a child growing up in Toronto, Canada exposed as she was to the high culture and avant-garde music in the downtown area of Toronto. She happened to be at the O'Keefe Center (now known as the Hummingbird Theatre) the night the Bolshoi Ballet's star dancer, Mikhail Barishnikov decided to defect and become a moviestar after moving in with Jessica Lang and heading to the USA,
After Amy turned 19 she wound up marrying an American, and moving to Southern Minnesota.
At age 29 Amy attended St. Cloud State University while she lived in Sauk Centre, Minnesota and then later on transferred to Minnesota State University, Mankato when she moved to New Ulm, and in due time she got her Bachelor of Science degree in vocal education.
During her time in college she sang with the Minnesota Chorale.
Along with being a performer, and a composer, Amy teaches private singing lessons, and in the public school system at the Lafayette Charter school in Lafayette, Minnesota.
Along with being an excellent singer, Amy is also a fine lyricist.
Cappuccino, Cappuccino, is her favorite song she has written the lyrics for, with the newly recorded Decadent Rituals, following as a close second.
Amy (Molly) also plays the piano, the guitar, the mandolin, and the ukulele. Amy's singing ranges in styles from the Jazz idiom, to opera, to pop music, to folk music, and to the blues. You'll hear her singing on this website with Sonny Boy and you can judge for yourselves as to what you feel about their musical style and performances.
Sonny boy, whose real name is James Zents, is a seasoned performer with over 50 years of music-making. Ever since he was a child growing up in upstate New York, Sonny Boy has been rabidly exploring, creating and stretching the boundaries of his musical creativity. Sonny Boy is the original Guitar Hero. You'll notice his fine playing on every number Molly and Sonny Boy perform. Sonny Boy also writes songs for the duo. Together Molly and Sonny Boy have written the music and lyrics for Superman I wish I was you, and continue writing songs as a team.
Exponentially, putting our heads together (in songwriting) has yielded a richer creative product, says Molly.
It is difficult to describe the genre of Molly and Sonny Boy's. Suffice it to say, they are singer-songwriters, yet they also enjoy performing music from a variety of popular music artists, embracing the cover songs of the 20th and 21st century, yet interpreting the blues, jazz, country, and classic rock songs in their own unique way.
