Biography: An entrepreneur, inventor, business training Guru and innovator of video technology software, Jerry Salandro founded IRIS Technologies in 1987. An expert with more than thirty years of experience using video technology to teach students, athletes and professionals, Jerry holds nearly 56 patent claims on video devices that are being used across the country in places like the Pentagon, NASA and Comcast as well as in colleges and high schools from New Hampshire to California. Salandro discovered his love for technology while teaching and working on his Masters Degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During his research he discovered that people only remember a mere 3% the next day when taught using lecture methods and a surprising 70% when taught using video, pictures or other visuals. This research changed how Salandro began training employees and students throughout his career. Compelled to make a difference in an educational environment where using videotape was a major obstacle, Jerry dedicated himself to making video easier to use for everyone.
A pioneer in using software and technology to make training easy for educators, Salandro was responsible for the largest training effort in state history. While he served as Education and Training Supervisor for Volkswagen Manufacturing Corporation of America, he was responsible for hiring and training systems for nearly 5,000 people. In 1980, Salandro also designed a franchise concept for the one hour photo industry. In 1982, he developed the world?s first equipment to transfer photos, slides and home movies to video tape...and later to digital media format. This was the advent of today's popular home media servers and personal video recorders.
Recognized nationally as a Business Training Guru, Jerry now uses his video training expertise in mentoring and teaching employees and students, at his company and at companies, schools and universities around the country. Jerry's unique skill in making products easy to use has brought him great recognition from managers, teachers and coaches. Allowing teachers, coaches and instructors to easily find and use video helps kids and people learn faster and remember more. A picture is worth a thousand words, but it is too hard to find the picture we need when we are training, says Jerry when speaking across the country. Solving problems such as rewinding and forwarding VCRs, connecting cables to video equipment and finding the right video information when you need it have been his life?s passion.
Jerry is a graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania and Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he received his Masters Degree in Education. Salandro has received the Business Person of the Year Award from the Westmoreland Economic Development Corporation, the Distinguished Alumni Award from California University and the Business Ethics Award from American Business Ethics Association. His company was nominated in the top 50 fastest growing companies in Western Pennsylvania.
