Description: This show will deal with the issues of contamination of the U.S. Food Supply from the Field to the Fork as well as how it relates to the effects on our health and health-care system.
I was a truck driver until 1992 when I hauled a load to Brattleboro, VT that changed my life. This life changing event is why I do what I do now.
I suffer from Styrene poisoning as well as Multiple Chemical Sensitivities contracted from hauling ??????¢??food grade??????¢?? Styrofoam packaging. The last load I hauled of this product was April 6th, 1992. After I delivered that load I became extremely sick. For a long while my doctors could only treat symptoms. 1999 my wife and I started to gather all my trucking log books and enter the trips into a spreadsheet to see if there was a pattern anywhere that could give us insight into my constant sickness. We did find the pattern, styrene, benzene, Asbestos and formaldehyde. My health has improved each year because I learned what I needed to avoid so as not to be re-contaminated but it is not easy these chemicals are everywhere.
I also noticed something else; I consistently hauled food and poisons in the same trailer and questioned the company. I became very concerned and started to investigate if this was a legal practice and found something even more shocking, there are no regulations that are upheld to protect our food in the transportation process.
From this I started to research many of my concerns about foam food packaging and food transportation and developed a website: http://www.comfortncolor.com/HTML/PoisoningPage.html to share my research with others. This radio show is the next step in continuing the conversation I??????¢??ve been having with everyone I meet about how our food is handled from the farm to your fork. I hope by discussing these things we can produce change and collectively help protect our food supply. less
