How do I Increase Live Participation?
June 29, 2007 at 5:08 pm | Author: TalkShoe Team | In TalkShoe Tips |
Increasing participation is the 64,000 question for our TalkShoe hosts. There are many ways, and no single way to do this. Here are some suggestions
- Do your podcast at a regular day and time
- Schedule 2+ episodes in advance
- Use the invitation function when creating a new episode
- Invite several times
- Send emails to your personal email list
- Talk about participating on your show so listeners will hear it
- Promote a link to your show in your email signature
- If all else fails, call your mom and ask her to join
Please comment in the Host Blog with your suggestions.

You ability to do this will vary depending on your show, but here are some things I’ve done:
1) Make sure you engage people. As soon as someone joins you should let them talk or they will likely leave before you get the chance to let them. If you do this then you will get more repeat callers.
2) Incentives. I will sometimes give prizes to live participants. I’m hosting a Q&A for an author and he is giving away chapter one of his book a week before it is available anywhere else to talkshoe listeners.
3) Games. This goes well with number two. I will sometimes play trivia or other games related to the topic of my show. This has the dual effect of engaging people, and entertaining them. It’s a great way to encourage people who normally only download to join in.
